Yours, Mine & Ours

I've never been a big movie person.... I don't go to theatre more than once every couple of years.... I don't really rent movies.... the Big Dubya rents them and I usually fall asleep before the opening credits have wrapped up. With a few exceptions.... movies and TV.... are just not really my cup of tea. But, growing up in a suburb of Boston, we were treated to Channel 56 (long before it was associated with the WB). Channel 56 was cool (with the exception of Creature Double Feature which was just plain creepy) because they used to play all the old movies on Sunday afternoons. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Herbie the Love Bug -- I even got to see Don Knotts in The Incredible Mr Limpet, long before he was Mr. Furley on Three's Company. I think this is why I was so bummed to hear that they are re-making Yours Mine & Ours . The original was such a wonderful movie.... a widowed Lucille Ball falls in love with and then marries an also widowed Henry Fonda.... the glitch, she has 8 children -- he has 10! It's a great, wholesome family movie about merging two large and different families. The basic concepts are still very applicable today.... yet, Hollywood feels the need to re-make it. It's kind of arrogant for anyone to think they could improve upon the original.... I mean... Lucille Ball, Henry Fonda, Tom Bosley..... do you get any better than that???? It's a shame that because Hollywood can't make a real original movie....they choose to rip-off and ruin the classics.
